Elusive landscapes series

This series is inspired by winter colors and peaceful and mysterious atmosphere in the mountains. When I painted it I didn’t use photos or sketches as a reference. My work was intuitive, guided by sensations and memories from my walks in the hills near my house and frequent trips to the nearby mountains.
I really like to experiment with watercolors, they allow more freedom and spontaneity at work, you have to dare and not to be afraid to make mistakes. The difficulty is that you can’t be sure of the end result until the work is completely dry, but I like them because they are unpredictable. I worked with a lot of water and liquid colors that mixed directly on paper without leaving the marks of brushstrokes.
Hot pressed watercolor paper, that is usually used for detailed works, surprised me with the unexpected results. It does not absorb a lot of water and for these reason gives much more time to mix and blend the colors together on its surface. Its even more resistant and handle multiple washes of water, this allows overlapping more layers of colors with interesting effects.
